New Age Retailer's review of
Belly Dancing The Sacred Shapes
By Brita Adkinson
With interest in bellydancing
sharply increasing in the New Age market, be sure to stock quality videos like
Belly Dancing The Sacred Shapes. This fun-filled video is delightful to
watch simply as entertainment. At the same time, it is a well-organized,
easy-to-follow, and intense course in the art of bellydancing. For a beginner,
as well as for dancers with experience, Belly Dancing The Sacred Shapes
offers valuable, detailed instruction.
The sacred shapes – five types
of movements – are circle, crescent, figure eight, shimmy, and undulation.
These movements are found in nature. Undulation, for example, is found in a
winding snake, in a woman’s contraction, and in a sound wave. The dancers
explore goddess-concepts, such as dances of Kali, Pele, and Diana, and explain
the spiritual aspects of bellydancing. The three women of the troupe The
Goddess Dancing, representing 42 years of dance experience between them,
demonstrate each group of movements, offering viewers variety and lots of
creative ideas. Excellent camera work allows viewers to follow movements in
minute detail. Exhilarating music makes this energetic video demonstration
complete.
