In 1989, when we chose our name, there was a cultural rebirth of
all things Goddess, largely due to
Maria Gimbutas’ work. And so, since we were trying to reach back into matriarchal
times with our dancing, it felt natural to call ourselves just that. Indeed, we were The Goddess
- dancing.
Although not all our members
called themselves pagans back then, many of us were and all of us were drawn to
collaborations and performances that were
pagan. As the
years went on and women joined and then moved on, each one contributed their
observations and joys of being a woman and their feeling of being a Goddess in
patriarchal times. We are still all dedicated to The Goddess (three of us
are pagans and one of us is an environmentalist. And we
still are The Goddess - dancing.

members here.
Like many pagans we have
chosen to dedicate what we love to do and what gives us joy to that which is
beyond us, yet within us. We focus primarily on The Goddess and find great
inspiration in her stories, her children, and her legacy. When we get stuck, we
often ask ourselves, “What would The Goddess do?” and of course the answer is
usually “Flow like Water” or “Rise like Heat”. We keep Her in our focus and do
our best to honor the part of us that is Her as women.
We do not follow a
tradition. We all came to paganism through our love and observations of the
world, the ways of nature, the beauty of the human mind & spirit, the symbolism we dream
in, and the feeling of coming home. We have all participated in ritual and
studied the nature of it. And, among the ways we feel qualified to engage in and
lead ritual is through belly dance. Our
choreographies,
therefore, are performed as ritual. We include intention, we summon powers, we
raise energy, and we let it go.
We feel very deeply the powers
of nature and the environment and our belly dance curriculum is founded on the
natural,
Sacred Shapes™ found in nature.
Although we are not Wiccans,
we do follow the Threefold Law, or
Wiccan Rede (Gardner/Crowley/Valiente) We teach belly dance,
carry out our teacher
training, and create our curriculum all with the Law held deeply in our bodies,
minds and spirits.
We welcome all pagan
and non-pagan denominations and seekers. We
heal, honor, and empower ourselves through helping other women to do the same.
Blessed Be!
We are The Goddess
