Belly Dancing The Sacred Shapes™
with The Goddess Dancing™
Beginner Level
Belly Dance Instruction
Congratulations! You are interested in belly dance and that
means you are now connected to the world’s oldest women’s dance!
What the Video Contains
This video is the first belly
dance instruction of its kind. Contained on the video are over a dozen
different belly dance movements that are seen in belly dance styles around
world. The movements are taught in five sections. Each section is one of the
Sacred Shapes™ and is introduced by a teacher. These movements are then modeled
by three different teachers on the screen. All of the movements are seen from
more than one angle and there is a clear view of the teachers at all times. This
makes the instruction easy to follow and understand. There is then time to
practice and play with the movements with the teachers.
The video also contains a
brief history of The Goddess Dancing™ and a curriculum overview.
Goddess Stretches are
unique to The Goddess Dancing™ and are also contained on this video. Images of
the Goddess from around the world are used to guide the movements of the
stretches.
The last section is an
original choreographed dance, The Creation Dance, that incorporates the
movements taught in the video. There is a prompt on the screen for which
movements are next in the dance, making it easy to follow and learn. The
teachers do the dance several times in a row so that you may watch and practice
along.
The music is provided by
the highly acclaimed musician Alan Bachman of
Desert Wind and it uplifts and
supports the instruction without interfering with it.
The
DVD contains a performance by each of the teachers on the video. The
performances are all examples of completely improvised dances. Each teacher
takes a turn to be in the moment and express herself.
For Beginners…
First, we have been teachers for
many, many years and we believe this dance is appropriate for everyone. And,
yes, that means YOU! Remember this dance is a folk dance and that means folks of
all kinds enjoy doing it. Belly dance is all the things you’ve heard it is:
sensual, mysterious, spiritual, powerful, revolutionary and most of all FUN. We
discovered that all the styles of belly dance from all over the world have
several fundamental movements in common. We put together a curriculum around
these fundamental movements and added the elements of good posture which are
common to most fitness styles. We have had thousands of students who not only
feel better after learning with us, but also go on to discover how to express to
others their deepest self through belly dance.
For Fitness…
Belly dance stimulates blood
flow, tones the core muscles of the body, gently moves the spine and strengthens
the limbs. The movements can be done vigorously for a cardiovascular workout or
they can be done slowly for a relaxing workout. Our curriculum is designed for a
lifetime of dancing, it supports a better posture and it can be modified for all
kinds of physical needs. Most importantly, belly dance asks you to move parts
of your body that don’t normally get moved in day-to-day activities. In this
way, belly dance helps you GET IN TOUCH WITH YOUR BODY. We encourage you to have
joy in your body just the way it is!
For Middle Eastern Dancers…
-
Good
posture and strong core muscles are essential if a lifetime of dance is what
you desire.
-
See how simple learning new moves will
be when you understand how to see the Sacred Shapes™ in them, NO MATTER WHAT
YOUR STYLE.
-
Dance your inner essence through these
unique movements that allow you the room to EXPRESS YOURSELF.
For Belly Dance Teachers…
-
How can I help my students learn at
their own pace?
-
How can I break down complex movements
to show beginners?
-
How can I show my students good
posture?
-
What makes a dancer dance like herself
and not like her teacher?
We have the answers to these questions and many more that
teachers often ask.
