Celebrating 20 years of Choreography
The Goddess Dancing (TGD) presents
Chrysalis their 2009 dance concert. Anchored in
the roots of belly dance their choreography is inspired by the
innovators of modern dance such as Duncan, Fuller, and Denishawn.
They add their unique interpretation and the results are compelling
stories brought to life through contemporary belly dance
choreography.
Celebrating their 20th year, the
company shares the power and grace of change through their
production Chrysalis. The show is a lyrical look at
letting go, looking back, and moving on. It includes favorites from
past years and stunning new dances.
This year’s new choreography, Wisdom of
the Trees, is a sacred meditation on transforming our
connection with the natural world told through primal music,
original art, and compelling movements. In this evening of riveting
stories told through the beauty of human movement, it is a belly
dance journey audiences will remember.
Always inventive, always unusual, it is a
night of belly dance that will have you captivated and moved. This
year TGD moves its annual dance concert to a new venue – the
beautiful, state-of-the-art Boston University Dance Theater. Only
held once a year, it is an evening not to be missed.
The goddess Dancing has been performing contemporary belly dance for
20 years. They are master teachers with ongoing classes at their
studio in Cambridge and for the dance department at BU with their
own instructional video. The owners and principle dancers of the
company are: Anita-Cristina Calcaterra, Karen Uminski, and Leslie
Bordonaro.
